Example: I went on a 1st date (and last). We were suppose to go out to dinner. When I arrived at the meeting place, in a dress, he was on a motorcycle. No biggie, I had to drive. When get into the car and he tells me he only has and he wants to check out a party at a friend’s house. We get there and there are about 5-6 guys. I am the only woman. The place is gross and there is hardly any furniture. I sit down on the edge of what looks like a piece of patio furniture. One of the guys, sprawled out on the floor eating Burger King, tells me that I better make sure "the snake" is not under the chair. Apparently one of the roommates had a snake and they just let it loose in the apartment. I grabbed my purse and told my date I was leaving. Before I walked out the door, he said, "we aren’t going out again are we?" duh.

My apartment’s balcony isn’t that large and just has patio furniture (table and two chairs) and a view. But the sun shines directly on it making it impossible to even walk out there most of the day. I noticed some people have these three-sided stands (I don’t know what they’re called… they can fold out and in).

I can’t do too much considering I am renting the apartment and installing anything would be against the rules probably.

Any suggestions? Who sells those vertical stand things and what are they called by the way?

Hopefully I can find something that works; a rather big issue is the fact that the sun comes in from high above and blocking it might prove difficult.

Thank you!

I just moved to an apartment with a decent sized balcony. I have shade a good part of the day, and the breeze is fantastic. I want furniture comfortable enough that I could fall asleep on. I’m not worried about functioning for eating or anything, but I’d at least like seating for 2. A hammock would eat up all my space with the stand, so that’s the only no go I have.

Any ideas?

There is a part in the movie Disorderlies where the three orderlies break a white wicker or rattan swing that swings from a stand shaped like a bannana tree. A friend of mine had one in her apartment many years ago and I have looked for one every since. Hers was natural color, but I wouldn’t care if they were yellow, black, or purple I just want one. Anyone know where I can purchase one like it?
