Patio Furniture Chairs Archives

So we have a large deck and would like to have 2 seating areas. 1 with a large table and seating for at least 10 and then an outdoor family room set (couch. loveseat, coffee-table, etc). I am trying to choose a material. For the table and chairs I am in between Ipe and cast aluminum. And for the other seating area I’m thinking resin wicker, Ipe, or cast aluminum.

The 2 most important traits I am looking for are #1 What will it look like in 5-10 years if I do little more than cover it in the winter. and #2 I would like to do as little as possible and have it stay looking nice.
Cost is not an issue. I want it to look very nice for a long time and am willing to pay for that.

I want the Ipe as it looks amazing but it doesn’t take oil well, I hear, and after a few years in the sun will just look grey I’m afraid, so what’s the point? I’ve seen what Atlantic City boardwalk looks like after 25 years, it’s Ipe, and I don’t really care for that look. But I bet they never oil it and it’s in the sun 100% of time. My deck is in shade about 50% of time and we will have umbrellas too and will cover in winter.

Okay, so I moved downstairs about a year and a half ago. My room is like 30×15 and I hate how it’s so big! Half of it is the storage area and the other is my room. It’s so cold down here! The one heater does not heat this room up at all! And, even if we were to build a wall to separate them, it would still be too big for my liking. So, I asked my mom if I could move across the hall into a tiny room. I mean, really small room here! It’s 6’6"x15’10". So, it’s skinny and long. But, I really want it. My mom said that I could once we clean out the storage area of the other part of my current room. We have it pretty much cleaned out, so this summer I will be moving into it. Regarding my question…We just turned our patio into part of the house (still has a door connecting to the house) and we thought we would be out there all the time using it. My mom even spent like ,000 to get it done. She bought a 42" flat screen Samsung T.V. and a nice futon that turns into a bed. I am the only one that uses the room (it’s just me and my mom that live together). Literally, she NEVER is out there. She hasn’t watched T.V. on the new flat screen ever. And, no one ever sits on the futon, not even me, because we have a nice comfy chair. So, I was thinking that when I move into the little room this summer that I could have the futon as a couch in the day time and a bed at night (it’s comfy, I have slept on it before) and mount the T.V. on my wall (to save room, since it’s a small room!). I don’t want the furniture I have right now…I have had it since I was 7 and I am now 15..Sad, huh? My mom said she wanted to buy me new furniture anyways, so why can’t I just put those ones out in the room that are never used into use?! Haha. Anyways, can you guys please give me some ideas on how to bring this up with my mom and how to convince her?! Thanks so much. 10 points to best answer. Sorry this was so long.

P.S. I am always out there in the room watching the T.V.

Hello! I have an apartment that is about 985 square footage… my dining room and living room are connected into one big rectangular space of about 12×21….. at the far end of the rectangular space is the sliding door to the patio, therefore I have two parallel walls to work with when it comes to my living room. My current arrangement is the large sofa on one wall, on the wall across is the mounted flat screen tv and separating the "dining area" from the living room is a love seat. Coffee table in the middle. Here goes my thoughts, I would like a modern vintage twist. My accent wall (where the large sofa is against) is a turquoise color. My couches are black microfiber and the armrests are leather. They are pretty chunky, the arm rests have a slight round curve giving it a "formal" flair but none the less they are contemporary. I’m wondering if the love seat should be removed and replaced with two arm chairs in order to give the room more space. I wanted to remove the coffee table. I don’t know what to place on the wall with the flat screen tv… all we have is a tv mounted on there. Over the big couch on the turquoise wall I want a vintage black mirror. I’m making zebra print pillows for the couch. Will removing the coffee table make it look too empty? Should I place a rug instead? If so what kind of rug? what patterns would look good with the zebra…? I have a two year old trouble maker and i’m about to have another baby which is why i’m considering getting rid of the coffee table since its more like a play table now. What do you all think? How can I achieve a modern vintage look… using turqoise black and a hint of red…. but also have a spacious area?? I’M STUDYING INTERIOR DECORATING in the midst of doing this to my home and it seems to just confuse me more… money IS AN ISSUE!
